You would think that with everything I have been through in life that I would be better prepared but You open an envelope, see the money and only skim the letter that accompanies it. This is why even today a lot of people still become victims to this. I have no doubts that somebody is laughing at me now as I write this.
My wife and myself were victims to something like this about 4 years ago. We ended up losing everything including 3 years of our lives. Because of what happened my wife is now a member of a non profit designed to help victims and educate people. The organization is Fraudaid. Back then we had done everything that a responsible merchant knows to do and we still lost everything and I spent some time in jail because of it and then when I finally got out it was on house arrest.
This time the cashiers check looked as authentic as a hundred dollar bill. Scammers will buy check stock from an employee of a bank and then the work begins. Used to be done on typewriters but now they have laser printers and a lot of professional equipment.. The letter that came with the check said I was being paid for my research which is something, coincidentally, that I do on a regular basis. It's like those phishing email you get which is addressed to all Chase banking customers. They figure its all a numbers game and that some of the recipients will actually be Chase account holders.
Americans are probably the ones that most fall for these scams I'm sorry to say. We are always looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. For something better. A Great many of the problems that America has each year is because of our lack of honesty. We pitch out America land of the free and we have a lot of immigration problems because of this. If instead we showed everybody what life is actually like in America there would be a lot of former border patrol people looking for new jobs..
If the medical companies only created cures for illnesses then they would eventually be out of business. Have you ever noticed that the medicine you take for something cures that something but creates other problems? These drug manufactures are far from stupid. It's like what HP discovered with their printers, the money is not in the sale of the printer but in the cartridges and service.
20 years ago I used to sell cars and the intro models started at under $10,000. 20 years later the pricing is practically the same. You would think that with inflation you would not be able to buy some basic car for less than maybe $50,000. Look at how cheap computers are priced these days. The money is not in the sale of the computers but in the service and the sale of accessories for the computers.
A pack of cigarettes has definitely gone up in price due to inflation. You could probably buy them a hundred years ago for a lot less than one dollar but look at how much they cost today. Same with a cup of coffee, bottled water, a burger at McDonalds. Inflation has even affected people like bank robbers. 100 years ago they would maybe steal a few thousand dollars and it was a major heist. The days it has to be over lets say $100,000 to even make the news.
The cashiers check that I received was less than $3000 but I had planned on using about $2,000 to pay off some bills that needed to be taken care of. None of this money was planned on being used for me to get out of this country or buy a big TV entertainment center. I thought that maybe my luck was starting to change, that the law of attraction was finally starting to work for me. Well all bubbles have to burst some day, mine just burst a lot faster.
