I was pleased to wake up this morning to an IM window from a loved one who says that she’s going to make the most out of her life and that she was not going to waste her life away. I was pleased when I saw that. Sometimes it’s nice to hear that the people you care about are doing something that they want and are taking control of their lives.
If there’s something I’ve learnt about humans, it is the fact that all humans crave CONTROL. There might be a few people who say, ” I don’t like control, I like to go with the flow. Spontaneity is what I like.”
Bullshit.
Everyone wants some form of control in their lives. Imagine getting thrown off a 677-storey building and you have no parachute and safety gadget of sorts. The adrenaline is terrifying because there is nothing you can do to stop that fall.
Now imagine having a parachute. You know how to use it. You jump off that 677-storey skyscraper feeling confident and you enjoy the dive. That’s because you have control.
So I see my friends taking control and I feel really good because that’s one of the things that people nowadays lack, a lot.
Simple example.
Ask any 10 people what they want to do in their life. Odds are, 9 out of 10 of them would tell you…
“I’m not sure. I’ll see where life takes me.”
or
“I don’t like to plan. I like to (yes) go with the flow.”
or
“You only live once, why think about the future?”
or
“Who cares? Let’s have fun! Party all night long! For tomorrow we die!”
Sad.
There’s a reason why people can say those things that I pointed out above, and that is the fact that they’re still very comfortable with their lives and don’t see a need to expand it and get out of the box.
You’ve just heard the 1st reason why people don’t succeed, and that is because of that thing
COMFORTABILITY
When you get really comfortable with your situation, you don’t feel the need to get up and walk on your path to success. The full force of inertia is on you.
Imagine sitting on a couch and you’re really comfortable. Your legs are heavy. Your forehead is cool. Your heartbeats are slow. Your eyes are drooping. Chances are you won’t get up and move.
If you’re being too comfortable in your own skin, you would find that it is harder to go where you want to go. The most successful people are successful and feel driven because they hate the situation they’re in and want to get out of it FAST! So the same applies for anybody else.
I told myself that I wanted to get rich when I was 15. But I was always comfortable with my life…
- Go to school
- Play
- Spend money
- Throw paper balls at the teacher
- Drool over tables during lectures (aka Sleep)
Real comfortable.
But I began to feel the drive when I grew older and realised that ,” hey, I’m not young anymore. I want to settle down and build an empire for myself. Moreover, it was time I flew out of my comfortable nest and find my own nest.”
So the same applies. If you’re feeling real comfortable with your life, it’s time to reevaluate what you really want in your life and see the ugly contrast between that utopia you’ve pictured and that dystopia that you’re in right now.
