In this week's Cooking Club for seniors meet, Hugh shared with us a Lentil Soup recipe. He made this Lentil Soup for his son at home. The Lentil Soup is rich with vitamins and fiber from the vegetables and the lentil a rich source of protein and fiber too. Karen and Santosh helped Hugh with all the peeling and chopping for this recipe.

I wanted to make birthday cupcakes for two friends, Sara and Rachel, and I couldn't decide on regular sized cupcakes or miniatures. Turns out, things worked themselves out, two people meant I could do both. I must be on a lucky streak because this recipe also turned out to be perfectly one tray of regular sized and one tray of miniature sized. Oh, and absolutely delicious too!

Kat doesn’t just like cats–she likes dogs, too, and dogs like her.
Here you see Kat sitting with her grandparents’ dog, Sky, the first morning we were at their home in New Hampshire.
The two of them got along famously–Sky listened to Kat and the two of them played together very well and had a [...]

I remember when I had time to cook my husband pancakes, eggs, and bacon every morning for breakfast. You can bet my husband remembers those days, too. Those were the good ol’ days.
We slowly reverted to just eggs & bacon, and then alternating eggs & bacon with cereal, and then just cereal. But for [...]

While S and I love nothing more than spending a full day working on prepping an amazing meal, the reality of our lives is that on most weekdays, we get home late, grab a quick dinner and then spend another couple of hours working before finally turning in. And I don’t think we’re alone. I [...]

I picked up the complimentary 'Something Extra' magazine from our local Nob Hill Foods supermarket the other day. While I was wandering through the pages, my attention caught on the recipe for homemade hot chocolate mix. I was excited because over the last year we'd been looking at the ingredients in all the standard single serving packets of hot chocolate on the market, and it seems that (excluding the more expensive or gourmet brands) there w

I’ve always been envious of those food bloggers who got together to bake, whether via Skype—and may I just say how brave you are to have laptops in the kitchen with flour and batter flying—or in person. So when my friend Kate, who was visiting for the weekend, said that she quite fancied doing some [...]

Whistler has had a non-stop deluge of rain, which has gone far to remove whatever romanticism I have about the place. Whistler with sun? Love it! Whistler with snow? I adore it. Whistler with rain? The town quickly becomes a mud-encased tourist center. As the area is designed as pedestrian-centric, it becomes a bit depressing to walk from one event to another.
But this is but a small thing. Overall, I've been having a great time.
Last night, I was able to sneak into a $250-a-head event celebrating both

My roommate and I share this odd habit of going to the grocery store and not actually buying anything to eat. Sure, we stock up on staples like pasta, canned beans and corn, yogurt and frozen veggies, but when it comes time to actually make breakfast in the morning (or even dinner on some nights), we end up staring into the fridge, wondering how it is that we both went to the store, and neither one of us has anything to eat.
This tends to mean that when it's time to make breakfast,

Ade made a wonderful dessert with Japanese squash and tapioca pearls. Japanese Squash is also known as Japanese Pumpkin or Kabocha.
Japanese Squash is rich in beta carotene (as in all red-orange colour fruit), iron, vitamin C and potassium. It also has small traces of calcium, folic acid and minute amounts of vitamin Bs.

Yes, I'm still alive and kicking but it's been a very busy and crazy week! We're moving my husband's office from one suite in the building to another suite five doors down. That isn't far to go so one would think we'd have it done in a day or so. Ummm, no. That isn't how it worked out. We've been at it since Wednesday and still aren't quite finished. But keep in mind that his lab is set up in the new office so if a patient shows up needing assistance, we stop what we're doing and tend to them, then get back to moving when we can. So it isn't as though we've done

BCD Tofu House, a chain from California, has opened a place in NYC, in K-town. I did eat at one in LA but that was about 15 years ago so I really don't remember much. I had high hopes though, which were soon brought down a notch.

I have been crying, off and on for five days.
Out of anxiety, trepidation, exhaustion, joy and pride, for nearly the past week, tears will clog my throat and dim my vision at odd moments. A song, a word, a face, a thought–all of these will inspire the overwhelming flow of emotions welling up in [...]

Weekends are for making breakfast. I used to think weekends were for going to brunch, and we still do go out to brunch every now and then, but I've started to embrace the simplicity, comfort and relative cheapness of making those same dishes at home.
Take the dish you see above: that's called a dutch baby; a big, puffy, baked pancake. I got the recipe from The Joy of Cooking, but Molly has a pretty gorgeous looking one on her site too (click
