You can’t beat a Sunday roast.  Whether it’s roast beef and light-as-air Yorkshire puddings or a succulent roast chicken—can you believe that I’ve never roasted a chicken?  Turkeys galore, and partridges, too, but never a chicken—a Sunday roast is a fantastic end (or beginning, depending on your perspective) to the week. Today I decided to make [...]

I give Jeff Allworth credit for bucking the crowd and suggesting the New Yorker feature on Sam Calagione and Dogfish Head Brewery wasn’t perfect in every way. It wasn’t. But his post titled “Wrong” is just as wrong when he writes “I see that he [Burkhard Bilger] has done a great injustice to the world of craft [...]

It?s difficult to be an objective about press coverage when (a) I get so much of it and have for years, and (b) Todd Antz is the newer kid on the block even if he?s a relentless self-promotional genius ? but seriously, Todd and Keg Liquors absolutely deserve wider renown of the sort prefaced by freelancer Marty Rosen?s weekend Courier-Journal profile.

The reason that my post is late this week actually has to do with my topic. You see, I had my Thanksgiving festivities on Friday as opposed to the actual holiday on Thursday, so yesterday I was still dealing with the cleanup, and I just forgot. And more than that, I wanted it to be at home, with my family. So m

We were down in Somerset for Bailey’s Dad’s birthday a couple of weekends ago and, as always, scheduled a visit to Open Bottles, the West Country’s premier eccentric beer shop. I have tried to write something poignant about the television show that's in part responsible for my interest in cooking, but I've run into a serious writer's block on the topic. I've mentioned Great Chefs before, in the context of "why can't the Food Network suck less?" But I've wanted to devote some actual time to the show for a while now. I was inspired to do it again, when I found that Great Chefs has
