It is here! The week of Thanksgiving, where you stock your fridge and pantry and start making food. I just made this Brandied Cranberry Sauce, brimming with notes of orange (recipe follows). It keeps for days in the fridge.
If you haven’t figured out your whole menu, or are looking for last minute inspiration or simply [...]

It’s Mona and my turn to demonstrate in the South Arm Community Kitchen. Mona made a German dish called Barley Chicken Stew for the main dish while I made Malaysian Fruit Rojak for dessert. I had blogged about the Fruit Rojak here.
The Fruit Rojak was accepted well even though it is a little [...]

If you get as rambunctious about trying new beers as I do ? and the fact that you actually read a friggin? beer blog tells me that you do ? then you?ll no doubt understand how exciting the prospect of beer-bar-hopping in Brookl

I read about they claim that the Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting is one of the best cupcakes in NYC, I was certainly curious. I've almost given up on NYC cupcakes, finding I much prefer ma

When something I’ve baked invokes “No. More. Wire. HANGARS!”" a la Mommie Dearest, I know it’s time to put down the wooden spoon and back away from the oven.
With this last batch of muffins, I think I might just be all muffined-out. I’m not sure I can eat another one. If it’s true, that you [...]

We were forewarned by Ron Pattinson (read the comments too) not to expect too much from the Pilsner Urquell brewery tour. However, rather than requesting a behind-the-scenes look during which I could ask my usual geeky questions, I wanted to see and hear how the brewing giant SABMiller presents Urquell to the public.
I’m glad we [...]

I know I rarely post twice in a day, but I am so excited about this find that I had to share it with you!
So, one this I never mentioned is that for my birthday my mom gave me this awesome book: Food Styling For Photographers (if you buy it through my amazon store, [...]

I've enjoyed Original Pete's pizza in my area for years; the crust, cheese and toppings all properly balanced. That said, this isn't a joint we hit up for sudsy refreshment -- at least it wasn't before we found ourselves at the Midtown location (

I have been a fan of Katie Brown since way back when. One of the first sound-bites I heard from her was when she said that when she makes mistakes in front of the camera on her show (The Katie Brown Workshop on PBS), she wants the cameramen to [...]

Someone was kind enough to send me an enormous amount of Kalahari Rooibos tissanes. Camellia Sinensis pure leaf drinkers often turn their noses up at other brews. I happen to spend a lot of time with folks that can?t be bothered to brew up fresh leaves, no matter [...]

The two weeks leading up to Thanksgiving are perhaps the best two weeks in Food Network programming.
Due to its origins as the holiday when early American settlers and Native Americans got together and broke bread, food has always been central to celebrating Thanksgiving. However, the holiday has become the [...]

I want to apologize to all of you.
I promised I would have a video today on how to make pie crust. Well, I have a video that I made with my cell phone that looks great and sounds great on my phone, but my computer doesn’t seem to support the sound files. So, [...]

There are times when it amazes even me that we?ve been able to accomplish what we have in a community that places a shockingly low value on the notion of education, achievement and personal growth. In these parts, conservatism is not a doctrine founded on ideas and principles. Rather, it is an anguished primal scream in the general direction of anyone and anything that the adherent can?t or won?t comprehend.

Around seven years ago, I met a guy by the name of Chris Atkinson at an unusual beer dinner here in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Hosted by Buzzards Bay Brewing Company of Westport, Mass, the dinner featured the brewery’s beers, a lager and a handful of ales, paired with foods long forgotten. What I do [...]

Yesterday was my friends Lindsay & Chad’s baby shower. Can you believe it? They’re going to have a BABY! There’s going to be a little munchkin to hold, and spoil rotten (cookies! movies! toys!), and then promptly give back to her parents. It’s fun to be an aunt.
I helped provide some snacks for the party, [...]

Here's the first round our annual holiday baking. We don't do Thanksgiving, instead we're usually traveling on turkey day. The downside is no leftover stuffing, but the upside cheap airfare, early skiing, and we are so excited for the big family Christmas meal. I always take LOTS and LOTS of cookies to Colorado to munch on apres-ski. The baking season, like ski season has officially begun. To kick off the whole shbang Mint Chocolate Cookies. Our fabulous b-sitter brought over some really delish mint chips from a gourmet shop in the area. Much like

spend small fortunes to recreate the quintessential French cafe. Nevertheless, it seems that the French are turning their backs on the real thing -- traditional cafe-bars, where once glasses of vin and Ricard, plates of croissants and escargot, cups of strong coffee and packs of cigarettes were de rigueur.
