La Bohémienne
I can still remember the first time when my mother explained to me how to prepare a bohémienne; I was excited at the thought that I was going to be able to reproduce the dish myself. In summer, when we had more eggplants than we knew what to do with, this dish from the [...]

I love to entertain. The days before I have a dinner party are spent ruminating over what I will serve, deciding what is at the peak of freshness, thumbing through food magazines for inspiration, furiously cleaning the apartment, and oh yes, thinking of how each of my guests will get along with one another. Though I may think long and hard, about what foods to serve, often times I resort to the same standbys. In the winter this usually means an entree that is hearty, rib-sticking, and often times braised. This way

I know I?m not supposed to say this, but I think fall may be coming soon. Also, and I know I?m really not supposed to say this, but I baked banana bread again. I?m so sorry, on both counts.

Every once in a while you come across something new in the culinary world that really surprises you because you’ve never heard of it before and it turns out to be incredible. This is what happened when we dined at Quahog’s Seafood Shack, a new restaurant in Stone Harbor, NJ that locals remember as Tridi [...]

In the interest of full transparency, I will confess something that my more regular contributors already know: I keep a backlog of Eatsdroppings. In part that is because they come in faster than I am prepared to post them these days, but also because I like to dole them out in moderately consistent little packets. So, if you've sent me a 'dropping and haven't seen it grace this site yet, have patience.
The name of this post alludes to two pairs of items heard independently of one another by the same person each in a single place. I t

I receive a lot of emails every day from people young and old interested in going to culinary school. Some want to start their careers in the restaurant industry, some are looking to change careers. Either way, www.reluctantgourmet.com has been a great culinary arts school resource by offering articles, schools listed by state, chef [...]

Boxes filled with cucumbers from the farmers market, scores of mason jars, big pots, lots of activity in the kitchen, fresh homemade pickles. These are some of my memories from summers growing up. Red Currant & Apricot Clafoutis
Call me addicted. I think I really am. Another clafoutis? Well, yes it is indeed. It’s been the clafoutis summer. My clafoutis summer. My friends must grow tired of them.
But I don’t. And P. neither. A good thing, and why not?
Well think about it. In my dessert répertoire, clafoutis ranks amongst [...]
