I am a huge fan of sweet and salty. I just love to use this combination on crunchy nuts with a bit of added heat. This is such a simple recipe that can be played around with the suit your taste. You can use any combination of nuts you like and the same with the [...]

Block Island
“Which way is it?” P. shouted as he was cycling a few meters ahead of me.
“It’s the next right!”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I remember the path!”
The path was rugged and dusty, with many puddles filled with the rain from the previous days. On each side, lines of black berry bushes were loaded with tempting fruit [...]

I know that summer is not completely over, but I start back to school in one week. This basically means I am preparing my farewell to summer, and hello to sharpened pencils, notebook paper, corduroy, and jackets. I think that fall is my favorite season. Pumpkin pie, apples, hayrides, and burnt umber leaves, I love those things, but I have to admit that I think a part of me has shifted. A part of me has fallen in love with summer.
When I moved to the beach at the impressionable age of 18, summer wooed m

I have a little theory about summer. It?s called the Picnic Quota, and basically, the idea is this: that a person requires a certain number of picnics per summer (PPS) in order to maintain a reasonable level of happiness through the impending winter. The baseline PPS may vary slightly from person to person, as does the definition of ?reasonable,? but you get the idea. As a general theory, I think it is pretty airtight. I also, incidentally, think I need more picnics.

Last night we had some friends over. I made a huge pot of veggie chili, and I made this delicious tart.
This was my first time making a tart. It was so incredibly easy to make, and came together in almost no time. The custard recipe was really delicious, and my friends where left wondering how [...]

I?m sure all of you have prepared a stew or lasagna and thought it tasted better the next day. I know I have and some meals like braised short ribs, I will purposely prepare them one day to eat the next so all the fat rises to the top and solidifies while in the refrigerator. [...]

I’ve always been a fan of Thai food and really wish I had the time to experiment more often with it. Pim’s Pad Thai has long been on my to-do list. I even have all the ingredients now, including palm sugar and tamarind, I just have to get around to actually making it.
When [...]

Since turning twenty five last December I have been doing a lot of thinking. I guess I sort of feel like I am in this transitional period in my life, but have no clue which way to take it. I have so many interests and so many plans, none of [...]

The Bike Ride
The road leading to the nearby bird reserve can be busy during rush hour, but that does not stop me on my bike. P. insists that I wear a helmet, but I am still being a bad sports about it. The afternoon feels windy and warm when I leave the house, and I [...]

Apologies for the lack of posting around here lately. Himself took two weeks off and we enjoyed some mini-trips and family time. My baby brother got married - sort of - the civil ceremony took place in Dublin last week, but the official church wedding and reception is in Italy in May. Cannot [...]

Although New York is on the Atlantic coastline, and I lived there for two years, somehow I couldn't imagine a crustacean cruising around the major metropolis area. So I went two years without eating a lobster roll. And for anyone who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, like I did, the lobster roll is a thing of seafood lore, something only to be heard of and spoken about in hushed voices while picking up the latest line-caught seafood from Half Moon Bay.

Or so my license plate frame reads. No singer has ever stolen my heart like Cat Stevens did that first time I listened to Tea for the Tillerman.
