Medical professionals have opinions on how hair loss occurs, especially with male pattern baldness. There are many interesting myths floating around regarding why hair loss is occurring in people. Here are a few myths and facts.
1. Myth: Losing your hair is a direct sign of permanent hair loss. This is not true because it has been found that humans normally shed from 20 to 100 hair strands each day. Hair loss can be best determined if you notice a reduction in any new hair growth over a period of time.
2. Myth: Male pattern baldness is caused thru genes on the mother?s side of the family. Not true. The gene pool on both sides of the family contributes to permanent hair loss.
3. Myth: Hair follicles can be increased with medications. Not true. Each person is born with the exact number of hair follicles that they will have their entire lives. Hair follicles can only be increased with hair transplants.
4. Myth: If I cut my hair, it will grow back thicker. Not true either. Cutting your hair will not make your hair thicker unless you are referring to the hair on your face, legs, or underarms. Those other areas do not have the same hair properties as the ones on your head and do not grow the same.
