October 24, 2028 ? The original cast of the High School Musical franchise comes together today for a new Webvision special, High School Musical Reunion.
The Disney movies have been serialized for the screen for nearly 25 years, with a revolving cast of up and coming performers. The new release brings together the original cast for the first time since High School Musical 3: Senior Year, which had a theatrical run in 2008.
Like the previous films, HSM Reunion has a skimpy plot, centering around the characters meeting again at their 20th year class reunion and proving they can still sing and dance.
Zac Efron, who reprises his role as Troy Bolton, leveraged the movies into a semi-successful movie career. But for the other cast members, the reunion movie marks their first return to mass audiences in years.
Vanessa Hudgens, who dated Efron off-screen during the height of HSM?s popularity, now does dinner theater in Los Angeles. Ashley Tisdale, who played Sharpay Evans, starred in the 2016 film Show Girls II, which flopped at the box office. And Corbin Bleu was last seen on Broadway playing a feather dust in Beauty and the Beast.
The film contains views of extreme plastic surgery results and insipid musical numbers. Viewer discretion is advised.
