Yup, Hollywood has done it again, once again they have tarnished or are in the process of tarnishing yet another Korean masterpiece in film making, and this time, they have gone way too fucking far, they have dug their claws into Oldboy.
Oldboy, as some of you may or not know is a breathtakingly amazing film directed and co-wrote by Chan-Wook Park, it is adapted from a manga of the same name and is the second instalment in his ground breaking Vengeance Trilogy, which also includes Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance and Lady Vengeance. So you can imagine my repulsion in finding out that not only is there a remake in the process but that the whole storyline and imagery has been plagiarized by a bollywood film made in 2006 called Zinda.
I mean everything about Oldboy has been ripped off in this film, as the synopsis of it blatantly states more or less the plot of Oldboy, It reads:
“Balajeet Roy and his wife live a picture perfect life in Bangkok. Everything seems to be going for them, and then their world is turned upside down. Balajeet is kidnapped, and when he wakes up he is in a steel cell. Everyday plates of fried dumplings are pushed through a slot in the door; he sees no one, no one talks to him. He has nothing in his cell but a TV. Fourteen years of solitary confinement, and he doesn’t have a clue why…and then one day, as suddenly as he was imprisoned, he is let loose. And he has four days to find out why.”
Sound familair? I mean even the fucking trailer taglines from Zinda were copied word-for-word from Oldboy’s. It’s a travesty I tell ya!
And God, as for the American remake, from what I’ve heard it’s none other than bloody Steven Spielberg; a man known for ruining his own films by remaking them over and over again, there actually could not be a worse person to direct a shitty remake, well maybe Mel Gibson… and so far Will Smith will be the main character, I mean, yeah Will Smith is funky and all that but just NO.
Ugh and they’ve gone and remade A Tale of Two Sisters, and had the cheek to rename it The Uninvited, stop bastardizing our foreign cinema! It started with The Ring, then The Grudge, now A Tale of Two Sisters and Oldboy, when will it end?!
Oh and Hollywood doesn’t just set their rabid money-grabbing dirty fingers on foreign cinema, oh no, they remake classics like The Wicker Man, and tone it down and fuck it up and make it “safe” and just make it SHIT. Instead of remaking films why doesn’t Hollywood or whoever just re-release the original versions so the kids today can have a proper dose of gritty storylines, beautiful imagery and different culture to their own, instead of putting the most annoying whiny teenage actors and actresses in a remake where everything is fucking CGI and unreal and shit and shit and shit and shittt. It’s turning the next generation into a bunch of idiots, well that with everything else that is wrong with today’s picture of “normality” and what’s publicized.
Oh yeah they can advertise alcohol to their nipples bleed but cigarettes? No, they cannot be seen because they are evil and kill you and kill everyone around you, I’m sorry cigarettes never made your daddy beat you or your friend date rape you or poison you in a few hours like alcohol does, I’m sorry psychedelics drugs don’t do it either, and I’m sure they’re sorry for opening your mind to new ways of thinking and feeling.
Ever get that feeling that everything is just completely backwards and nonsensical and only you can see it?
Maybe it’s just me…
