From today, October 2nd 2008 onwards India going to ban smoking in public place. If found guilty they will be penalized 200 Rupees or 5$ not only that the owners of the premises are also liable. From my personal point of view i support this decision because smoking kills not only the smoker but also the innocents. But i doubt about the implementation of the law.
India has so many laws. Good ones and bad ones. But the problem in India is that the number of laws that is actually implementing as the laws wanted is scarce. This is going to happen for this law as well. They will try to implement the laws may be for the first two weeks. That joking will continue for may be a month and after that no one even remember that such laws existed.
I'm saying from what I've seen. I am from a state in India where they had created such laws even before the central government actually thing about it. I know what happened to that law. They will strictly implement that laws for may be a month. During those circus days they will try as much as they can to convince the court that they are implanting it. Now i can see smokers every where. In parks, cinema halls or even in hospitals.
They decided the date October 2, which is the birthday of nations father Mahatma Gandhi. I don't know why did they taken this date. May be to start a new venture from a great mans birthday or may be to remember the new generation that there was a person named Gandhi and he is supposed to be the father of the nation. What ever it may be the laws is always a law. Some will implement it and the majority will forget it even the courts where they are created .
