Mrs. Micheleine Sully Dejoie provide care to the children after their surgery

Mrs. Micheleine Sully Dejoie has 10 year career with St. Damien Hospital and now is one of the nurses taking care of the children after their surgery in the Banana room. She explained to me, ?It is very important to be careful and pay close attention to the children in this room because after the surgery there are very frail and they need special care.?

Indeed, the nurses in the Banana Room are working closely with the pediatrician, and they have to follow the doctors orders scrupulously. The nurses are very helpful, they provide the appropriate prescribed medicines to the children, clean the injuries and apply new bandages, play with them and follow their progression.

?In order to help the children to recover normally we do some exercises with them according to the recommendations of the doctor.? she said. When asked how long a child can stay in the Banana room, she replied ?Depends on what kind of pathology the child is suffering from and his or her progress.? She added, ?It can be different from one child to another.?

Mrs. Dejoie develops good relationships with the children. The children are always asking for attention and like to play with the nurses. Some parents bring books, notebooks and pencils, so they can draw and keep learning a little bit during their stay in the banana room. It is a pleasure for her to be with them and she said, ?Most of the times the children remind me my two children at home.?
