As promised, here is a small post about travel information for Brunei.
Getting around the capital Bandar Seri Begawan
Buses are theonly form of public transport. Generally they operate between 6am and 6pm which limits you if you want to travel after 6pm.The price of a ticket is about 1 Brunei dollar (80 cents).
Taxis - available 24/7 and for some reason these are expensive, given that oil is cheaper than water here. Expect to pay 25 Brunei dollar for a 5km ride.
Eating and entertainment
Food and drink - you can choose between western eateries, Malaysian food, Indian and some local fare. Prices are cheap depending on where you want to eat. Shopping centres are more expensive than local markets. Most shopping centres are located in the city outskirts. You need transport to get there.
Brunei is a non-alcoholic country but you can bring some liquor in with you.
Nightlife - I think they are still thinking on this one. Don’t expect to live it up in Brunei.
Should I visit?
Brunei is a perfect place to visit for a short break, in that time you can look around the capital city, hire a car or book a trip out of the city and into the smaller villages, or go jungle trekking. If you are looking to see and experience something a little different, this is a good option.
Getting to Brunei
I flew from Singapore with Royal Brunei Air, this is not a budget deal, you can get cheaper return flights from Kuala Lumpur through Asia Air. Depends on what time you want to arrive and depart.
You can also enter Brunei overland from Malaysia, which most budget travellers do.
