This recipe is one I adapted from King Arthur Flour. Granola bars are one of those mass-produced items that are really easy to make on your own, and immensely more satisfying because you can customize them to your liking. For example, the original recipe called for, or at least suggested coconut, which I abhor (texture [...]

So it’s Mother’s Day, and I should probably be calling my mom instead of writing on my blog, but it seems like a good time to first say thanks to the woman who made me eat salad every day when I was growing up. And also to talk about women working in restaurant kitchens.

It’s called Refuse to Choose: Use All of Your Interests, Passions, and Hobbies to Create the Life and Career of Your Dreams. I admit to loving self-help books, because even though many of them end up being cheesy or underwhelming, every now and then there will [...]

Cheers to 25 years
There’s that saying: “Do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”
Thankfully, twenty five years ago Jim Koch followed his heart and quit his job to start brewing Samuel Adams Boston Lager. It was unique back then, and we still think there’s nothing [...]

It was just about getting dark by the time I got to Chicago downtown. I had earlier booked myself into a hotel within The Loop which is about the most convenient (not to mention safest) place you could stay in Chicago. The Loop is the historical downtown of Chicago which is bounded by the transit railway.
I actually did not know anything about the Palmer House Hilton Hotel. I g

Kelly Ryan spoke with a surprising sense of purpose considering this April evening had just turned into tomorrow in a Chicago hotel room, and lord knows what day it was 8,000 miles away in Auckland, New Zealand, where Epic Thornbridge Stout was still conditioning.
“I think it needs more time in the tank,” Ryan told Luke [...]
