Main causes of acne

The main  cause of acne is unknown, but doctors are believe it results from several  factors. One  more important factor is an increase in hormones called androgens (male sex hormones). These increase in both boys and girls during puberty and cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum. Hormonal changes related to pregnancy or starting or stopping birth control pills can also cause acne. Doctors describe acne as a disease of the pilosebaceous units (PSUs). Found over most of the body, PSUs consist of a sebaceous gland connected to a canal, called a follicle, that contains a fine hair.

What warrants treatment?

Comedones, whiteheads and blackheads, may be treated at home. Cysticacne generally warrants medical intervention.Hair, sebum, and keratinocytes that fill the narrow follicle that can be  produce a plug, which is an early  symbol of acne. These bacteria produce the chemicals and enzymes and attract white blood cells that cause inflammation.

Acne has a big effect on body image for teenagers. For some, this self consciousnesscan turn into an obsessive preoccupation with their skin.Treatment will vary from person to person, depending on the severity of the acne and the psychological effect.When the wall of the plugged follicle is breaks down, it spills everything into the nearby skin–sebum, shed skin cells, and bacteria–leading to lesions or pimples.

Before we talk about  acne treatment , let me tell you something about acne, There are several types of acne, each requiring different methods of treatment. it may be to your benefit to understand that there are different types of acne.

Though all pimples form the same way, they often take on different shapes and characteristics, and react differently on different people. Acne is formed when a hair follicle becomes clogged and what is called a comedo is formed. A comedo that reaches the surface of the skin and opens up is called a blackhead because it looks black on the skin’s surface.Its dark appearance is not due to dirt, but rather to a build up of the dark pigment of the skin called melanin. Blackheads are also a type of inflammatory acne.
