If at any point during your dream vacation to Paris you should need a break from Art! and Beauty! and Food! and Culture!, don't despair. This is perfectly normal and I recommend resetting your internal tourist engine by going to the movies. If you're not into big name Hollywood blockbusters, or smaller name French films, check out the La Geode, the giant hemispheric-screened OMNIMAX theater at Cite des Sciences in the 19th arrondissement. From January 14 through February 1, the theater's aptly named Festival de La Geode offers the viewing public the chance to vote on their favorite from a selection of eleven films. Six of the films are in the IMAX-180 format, including films on the Alps, the Grand Canyon, the American Great Lakes, and the life of Vincent van Gogh (which of these things is not like the others?). The rest of the films are in 3D format and cover topics such as dolphins and whales, dinosaurs and Egypt. In addition to the audience favorite, a jury of "audiovisual professionals" will award the Grand Prix of the festival, and groups of students will select the winner of the prix des jeunes. Outside of the competition, the theater will present a broadcast of the opera Orphee et Eurydice en direct from the Metropolitan Opera in New York on Saturday January 24.
