It seems almost unnecessary to write about ways to celebrate Valentine's Day in Paris - a simple stroll through the city streets should meet all of your romancing requirements. However, following are a few suggestions for those who prefer to plan ahead:
Although it's located next to the pedestrian-unfriendly Invalides complex, once you step inside the Musée Rodin, you'll forget that cars even exist invented. This 18th century hotel particulier is home to hundreds of the artist's bronze sculptures (including The Kiss) as well as his collection of works by his contemporaries. On nice days, enjoy a stroll around the lovely enclosed garden.
Worth a visit on Valentine's Day for its name alone, The Musee de la vie romantique (Museum of Romantic Life), is located in the 1820s mansion of Romantic painter Ary Scheffer. The museum features Scheffer's work and Romantic-era memoribilia, including the inkwell of Scheffer's neighborhood and sometime-girlfriend George Sand.
Between February 10 and 17, the festival "Amour et 7e Art" projects great French and American films at four cinemas throughout the city. Look for sentimental favorites including "Charade", "Jules and Jim", "French Kiss" and, of course, "An Affair to Remember"
If you're having trouble finding the right words, let music do the talking for you. On February 5, 7 and 8, the Musee d'Orsay presents Andre Messager's three act comic operetta "L'Amour masque" featuring the students of the Conservatoire national de musique et de danse de Paris, or if the message you're trying to convey is more risque, go for Dita Von Teese's burlesque show at the Crazy Horse.
If all else fails, impress your sweetie with your air guitar skills this February 5 at La Fleche d'Or, which hosts the Fédération Française d’Air Guitar 2008/2009 championships. Bring your A-game to this open competition where there is just one rule: the guitar is invisible!
